Here are some great venues to see live music in Toronto:

3030, The

Due back from renovations (after an unfortunate October fire) this venue features both original and cover bands. They have carved a distinctive party niche in the west end.

Axis Bar and Grill (in the Junction)

Live music all week plus one of the oldest open mics in the city on Tuesday's.

Cameron House

Mainly alt country, country and folk. The early shows (6pm) are a great idea.

Communist's Daughter

Saturday afternoon open stage. 4pm.

Dakota Tavern

Bluegrass, country, alt country. A mecca for the plaid set. Check out the Foggy Mountain Boys on Saturday 4-7pm, Beauties on Sunday night. Why Now continues to award this the "Best Blues Bar" is beyond a lot of people (including the bar).

Dave's on St. Clair.

Great bar. Cold beer. Good service. Check out the "well attended" Thursday night open mic run by Jay Pennell.

Gate 403

Jazz west. Good folk/country open stage on Saturday.

Gladstone Hotel

As above, with some R & B and blues thrown in. Hosts the monthly Toronto Blues Society free show.

Local Pub

It's not the same since May left, but heck we've adjusted. Great range of folk, country, blues and pop.

Rex Hotel

Jazz central, but still surprises with some R & B every now and then
